More on Student Motivation

As I have continued to reflect and discuss the source of student inertia with my students and colleagues (see Judge (my students) Not), two more ideas have surfaced:

  1.  Quote from Lea, “I learn math so I will be able to eat and will be able to do what I love:  art!”
  2. Quote from colleague, “I asked my students what they wanted to be when they grew up…when they were four years younger.  Then we talked about the chances of changing their minds again.”
